Microsoft Word
Preview and co-edit Word documents inside Elium: changes save back automatically.
About this integration
Word files stored in an Elium article can be edited in place, without downloading anything. A contributor clicks the file, opens it in Word for the web, and edits in the browser. Changes save back to the file on Elium automatically. Several people can work on the same document at the same time.
What you get
Edit in place
Open and edit a Word file straight from an article, in your browser.
Real-time co-editing
Several people can edit the same document at once.
Saved automatically
Changes are written back to the file on Elium, with no manual save.
Common questions
Can our team edit Word files without downloading them?
Yes. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open in Office for the web from inside Elium, and changes save automatically. Editors need a Microsoft 365 Business licence. Readers do not need one.
Can two people edit the same file at once?
Yes. Several people can edit a document at the same time in Office for the web.
Does an edit go live straight away?
No. Elium creates a draft with your changes and shows a banner, so someone publishes it when it is ready.
Where does the document go while it is edited?
It travels to Office for the web over HTTPS, on the same infrastructure Microsoft uses for Office. Once a session ends the content is no longer held there, apart from a viewing cache that can keep frequently opened files for up to 30 days.
