Common questions
Do we have to move everything out of SharePoint?
No. Documents can stay where they are. An administrator can connect SharePoint to Elium search. An advanced search then runs on both in parallel, and the SharePoint results appear in their own tab, without leaving Elium. You import only what belongs in Elium.
What is the difference between a preview and an import?
A preview keeps the file in SharePoint. It always shows the current version, but its content is not indexed, so it does not appear in search and AI assistants cannot answer from it. An import creates a copy inside Elium. That copy is indexed and searchable, and it does not change when the original does.
Can we bring across a large volume of documents at once?
Yes. An administrator can import documents and folders in bulk, so you do not move them one by one. The same import works for OneDrive, Google Drive and Teams. For a wider move, see how switching works.
Does this respect our existing permissions?
Yes. Each person signs in to SharePoint through Elium, and searches then run with their own access rights. People see only the documents they could already open. Setting up the connection requires an administrator, and may need specific rights on the SharePoint content.
